Back pain is one of the topmost problems world over. It might seem that it is just a minor pain in your back, but it is very much capable of throwing one’s life out of gear. Some of us have physically demanding jobs that involve working in one posture for long hours. And then when most of us reach home, we are just too tired to do anything except take the remote and watch television until it is dinner time. After dinner it is bedtime, and the day ends. That’s the reason why back pain has got to do more with the lifestyle and wrong postures than with anything else.

The commonest back pain is the lower back pain. In most of the cases, if the back pain has not reached chronic state, it can be entirely done away with. What works best is understanding the causes and taking due care so as to give no reason for your lower back to complain.

The people who lift heavy weights regularly are the ones most susceptible to lower back pain. This is due to the very nature of their work. However, this does not mean that there is no way to avoid it. It can very well be avoided if the weight is lifted properly with your legs bearing the major part of the weight. Do not just stoop and lift the weight. Bend your legs and lower your entire body in a squat, hold the object and rise. This way your back would not strain under the load.

Bad posture is another important reason. Those who slouch are very likely to have lower back problems. Therefore, practice standing erect with your shoulders square. When you sit on a couch, avoid sliding down with your neck resting on the back of the couch. You might find it relaxing but this may cause back problem soon enough.

Stress is considered to be one of the major reasons for back pain. Therefore, try to keep yourself as far away from stress as you can and do not deprive your body of sleep, as that, too, may cause back pain.

Finally, keep your diet healthy avoiding junk food and squeeze in regular exercise in your busy schedule. If you follow the tips above, back pain would soon be a part of your personal history.

Upper back pain is primarily a result of irritation of muscles and while it is not as common as lower back pain, it can be very painful and restrictive.

Many people are suffering upper back pain caused by work conditions, and poor posture and stress are often the cause.

Here’s a quick test. Next time you are at your computer just pause for a second and take note of your posture. Chances are your shoulders are hunched and you are leaning forward.

Now sit with your back straight. Even better get a chair that allows you to sit comfortably with your back in it. See how different your posture is now?

Try to pay attention to your posture on a regular basis. You’ll be surprised how often you catch yourself in the wrong position, but are able to self-correct and help your back.

You might on occasion find yourself waking up with upper back pain. If it’s a common occurrence, chances are that it’s your pillow that’s at fault.

When you first get a pillow, you head is a couple of inches off the mattress. But over time, the pillow gets flattened, and your head may only be half an inch off the mattress. This shift in position could be what’s making you more susceptible to upper back pain.

Aggressive treatment for upper back pain

A great way to treat upper back pain, especially throbbing upper back pain, is icing. Ice your upper back 3-4 times per day for 10 – 15 minutes, for two days.

Talk with your doctor about anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen. My experience has been that the doctor will advise a stronger dosage than what’s on the label and that can accelerate your recovery.

Exercises for upper back pain

If your pain is bad and lasts for a few days, go and see your doctor. Chances are that he will start you on exercises for your upper back to help recover from injury. Exercises that are often recommended include the following which should only be done after being advised by your doctor:

1.Standing in the corner of a room, about two feet or so from the wall. Put your hands on the walls at chest height. Then lean in to the corner until your shoulders are level with your hands. You will feel the stretch across your upper back and shoulders. Hold it for 10 to 15 seconds. Don’t lean in past your shoulders though since this can cause injury.

2.Stand or sit up straight. Now pull back your shoulder blades so that it feels that you are trying to touch them. Feel the stretch across your chest and shoulders.

Don’t try and rush your recovery from upper back pain. Follow your doctor or physiotherapist’s advice and you’ll increase your chances of being pain free sooner rather than later.

After visiting so many orthopedists and back pain specialists, after taking so many over the counter medications and after experiencing their side effects and no effects in curing your back pain problem…you are virtually hopeless of getting one right solution to your problems??

Don’t feel dejected as you are not alone. There are many like you who have gone through all these courses of back pain treatments finally reaching to a conclusion that all these medications are of no use in the long run. And it is partly true as well!

Now, you need a definite answer to your back pain problem? And I definitely have one for you.

Come to YOGA and you are on the way to find some thing definite, something authentic, and some thing that will provide you permanent relief from back pain and pave the way for you to live for the mythical age of 120 years!

This is the best answer! This is the only answer. Herein, by stressing on Yoga, I am specially referring to physical exercises. It is nothing but understanding your constitution. An institution created for you by the Almighty and your only job is to maintain it properly. The present back pain is your opportunity to make and understand your future programs!

There are many pain-related things which you need to pay attention to. They are also the indirect causes of your back pain. You may counter-question, what stress in my mind has got to do with the pain in the back. Once I was told by a famous Ayurveda Practitioner, to put a drop of Neem juice in the nostrils every day for healthy growth of hair!

I thought, growth of hair on the head…but what it has to do with putting drops of Neem juice in the nostril? But then, apart from his experience and confidence, he showed me evidence of several successful cases.

Do not be under the impression you can keep any yoga book full of pictures before you and practice yoga. There are hundreds of postures meant for different purposes, different diseases, if you wish to understand it that way. With the help of some experienced teacher, you have to learn which asanas are suitable for your immediate relief of back pain and then, for the overall strengthening of the body.

If you do the exercises like a novice, some asanas may increase your discomfort. “Start early, drive slowly and reach safely” is the principle to be applied in this area also. Guided by your yoga teacher, select a few asanas, select your timings, select your diet, and then go ahead. The results are slow, but they are bound to come and they will provide you permanent relief. You need to hold on to each pose for about 15 seconds. Never ever try or over do.

After each exercise breath in and breath out and relax for about a minute or two.

Don’t think, this article is the description on yoga. It is the prescription of yoga for your permanent relief for the back pain!

You know what it feels like when out of the blue your back suddenly seizes in debilitating pain and it’s all you can do to keep from falling to the floor. That’s what acute back pain is, a sudden sharp and severe intense pain that comes on unexpectedly and quickly. This is unlike chronic back pain which is more continuous or constant. Fortunately there are ways to find relief for acute back pain that will help the symptoms until you can get proper medical treatment.

For anyone who has suffered acute back pain you know how difficult it can make everyday tasks. This type of pain is normally caused by some sort of injury to the back but can also be caused by other chronic conditions that have been left untreated. It is the type of pain that is hard to ignore and the best advice anyone can give it to schedule an appointment with your doctor to get the right treatment.

There are several things you can do for back pain relief before you see your doctor or even while you are letting your back heal. The most important thing to do is to try and keep your spine in a neutral position at all times. This means you want to keep the natural curvature of the spine intact. You can do this by using a lumbar role when sitting and by making a conscious effort to avoid slouching. When sitting it is also a good idea to use an ergonomically designed chair that offers good support. Avoid “comfy” furniture that is soft and offers little support as this can actually cause the pain to worsen.

If you need to drive or ride in a car there are a couple of things you can do to make the ride less painful. The lumbar role that you use around the house can also be used in the car to keep you spine in a neutral position. If you are driving consider moving the seat back to make you arms straighter when holding the steering wheel. This keeps the whole body in a more upright posture relieving the stress on your back.

Making the injury worse is the last thing you want to do if you are looking for back pain relief. Lifting anything heavy, or even a light load, should be avoided to keep from further aggravating the problem. Another thing you don’t want to do is sleep on a soft bed as it will not support the back and lengthen the healing process.

That is the key to any type of back pain relief from an injury or other condition, giving it a chance to heal. Of all the parts of the body the back can take an inordinate amount of time to heal. Trying to rush back into your old routine will only make the problem worse and take that much longer to get better.
